Each channel covers a different question
A one-channel camera records ahead. Two-channel systems commonly add rear or cabin footage. Three- and four-channel kits may cover front, rear, cabin and sides, but layouts vary. Confirm exactly which cameras and cables are included.
More channels divide resources
Additional cameras increase memory use, wiring and installation time. Some systems reduce frame rate or resolution when every channel is active. Compare the recording specification in the exact multi-channel mode you will use, not the front camera's best standalone setting.
Rear and cabin cameras have different needs
A rear camera mounted inside the rear glass is simpler but must see through tint, defroster lines and dirt. Exterior cameras need weatherproof installation. Cabin cameras may use infrared illumination for darkness and raise privacy considerations for passengers or rideshare work.
Placement must preserve the driver's view
Mount cameras where the windshield and local law permit without obstructing vision or interfering with airbags. Route cables away from curtain airbags and moving controls. Professional installation is wise when trim, airbags or vehicle electronics are involved.
