Parking mode needs a power strategy
A camera plugged into an ignition-switched outlet usually turns off with the vehicle. Continuous parked coverage may require a manufacturer-compatible hardwire kit, dedicated battery pack or always-on outlet. Installation must include correct fusing and vehicle-specific wiring.
Protect the starter battery
Hardwire kits often provide low-voltage and time cutoffs, but settings and accuracy vary. A cutoff cannot guarantee starting after an old battery, extreme cold or long parking. Choose conservative settings approved for the vehicle and monitor early use.
Recording modes trade evidence against energy
Buffered event mode keeps a short period before and after detected motion or impact. Time-lapse records fewer frames continuously. Low-bitrate mode records conventional video at reduced data. Detection can trigger on wind, traffic or vibration, so sensitivity needs testing at the normal parking location.
Use endurance-rated storage
Dash cams overwrite cards constantly in heat and cold. Use the maker's approved high-endurance card type, capacity and formatting procedure. Check recordings periodically; an indicator light alone may not prove every channel is writing valid files.
