Enclosure and interlocks are primary controls
A laser capable of burning material must be isolated from eyes and skin. Use the manufacturer-designed enclosure with functioning lid interlocks and panels rated for the exact wavelength. Generic tinted plastic and ordinary safety glasses are not substitutes for verified protection.
Exhaust must reach a safe destination
Cutting creates smoke, particles and gases that depend on the material. Vent outdoors through approved ducting where discharge cannot re-enter the building or expose others, or use a filtration system specifically rated and maintained for the process. Filters saturate and require scheduled replacement.
Material identification is mandatory
Do not process unknown plastic, composite or coated material. PVC and vinyl can release corrosive, toxic gases; other materials can ignite or damage optics. Obtain composition and manufacturer approval before the job enters the machine.
Never leave a job unattended
Flame can develop from residue, poor focus, dense cutting or air-assist failure. Stay close with a clear view, keep the bed and exhaust path clean and have the manufacturer-recommended fire response available. Know how to stop the laser and isolate power without opening into a dangerous condition.
