Clean safely after the final mow
Let the mower cool, remove the battery or disable the engine as the manual directs, and wear gloves around the blade. Remove packed grass without placing hands near a blade that can move. Do not hose bearings, motors or electrical components unless the manufacturer approves it.
Inspect and sharpen the blade
A dull or damaged blade tears grass and increases load. Remove it only with the specified blocking and tools, note orientation and torque the fastener to specification. Replace bent, cracked or excessively worn blades rather than attempting unsafe repair.
Store batteries cool and dry
Follow the battery manual for storage charge and recharge interval. Protect packs from freezing, excessive heat, moisture and metal objects that can short the terminals. Do not store or charge a swollen, cracked or damaged pack.
Prepare fuel systems correctly
Gas-mower storage instructions vary: the manual may call for treated fresh fuel, draining or running a specified fuel system dry. Use the correct oil service and dispose of fuel and oil legally. Never siphon by mouth or work near flame.
Spring recommissioning
Inspect guards, cables, wheels, handle fasteners and safety controls. Install a charged battery or fresh approved fuel, then start outdoors in a clear area. Stop immediately for unusual vibration, smoke or control problems.
